Among Friends There Are No Borders

Consul General of Mexico Carolina Zaragoza poses with Enrique Gallegos, Chairman of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce Board, and Miguel Conchas, President,

The leadership of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce bid farewell to The Honorable Carolina Zaragoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo, this past Thursday at their monthly Board of Directors meeting.  Although Consul Zaragoza is not leaving her post immediately, she has announced that she will be departing within the next month, as she has been given a new assignment by Mexico’s Department of State.  The Chamber members of the Board decided to seize this opportunity to invite her and thank her for her support and collaboration during her 4-year stay in Laredo.

In form of recognition, Chamber Chairman of the Board Enrique Gallegos presented Zaragoza with a photo of the monument located at the Laredo International Airport titled Entre amigos no hay fronteras (Spanish for “Among friends there are no borders”).  The photo carried this particular inscription. The monument is the creation of local artist Armando Hinojosa, who autographed the photo.  As he presented the photo, Gallegos explained that the title of the monument was particularly fitting in her case.  The members of the Board followed with a standing ovation.

Consul Zaragoza thanked Gallegos and the members of the Board for their kindness and expressed in no uncertain terms that she carried a “bit” of Laredo in her heart.  She expressed gratitude to the Chamber and its president, Miguel Conchas, for the support offered her throughout her term.  She stated that her next assignment would take her to Mexico City, but that she was certain she would find an excuse to return and visit.
