LAREDO,
Texas – After the horrors of the Holocaust, the world vowed to
never let such a thing happen again. To that end, the City of Laredo, the
Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library and Congregation Agudas Achim will host the
Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 2.
The
reception sponsored by IBC starts at 5:00 p.m.; the ceremony will begin at 5:30
p.m. in the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library’s Multi-Purpose Room, 1120 East
Calton Road. This year, the featured speaker will be Mr. John Valls,
World War II veteran, who served in the European theater, 1944-45. As a
soldier in the US Army’s 52nd Armored Infantry Battalion, 9th
Armored Division, he was among the soldiers who participated in the liberation
of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Mr. Valls will be speaking about his
experiences as part of those forces involved in the liberation.
