Chamber Announces Small Business Week Events

Bordernomics Presentation and

2019 Small Business Award Recipients Announced

Laredo, TX, April 23rd , 2019 – In observance of Small Business Week, the Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Committee announced the 2019 Small Business Award winners as well as details on the upcoming presentation Bordernomics: Laredo's Importance in Border Trade and Commerce: US-Mexico Economic Integration and Expectations for the Future by renowned economist Dr. Ray Perryman, President and CEO of The Perryman Group, an economic research and analysis.

Small Business Week is a partnership that honors and supports Laredo's small businesses through events that inspire, educate and connect the members of our business community. These events are part of a national celebration of the contributions made by small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The Chamber will kick-off Small Business Week with an economic outlook for Laredo by noted economist Dr. Ray Perryman scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Perryman has been called a "genius" by The Wall Street Journal, a "world-class scholar" by Business Week 2

and "the most quoted man in Texas" by Texas Monthly. Perryman writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column, hosts a daily radio commentary and appears regularly on National Public Radio. His firm has served the needs of more than 2,000 clients ranging from major corporations to small start-ups and from local communities to the federal government. Dr. Perryman has authored more than 2,500 trade articles, publishes a subscription forecasting service and a monthly newsletter, writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column, hosts a daily radio commentary, and appears regularly on National Public Radio.

Bordernomics: Laredo's Importance in Border Trade and Commerce: US-Mexico Economic Integration and Expectations for the Future analyzes the economy of the US-Mexico border region in order to improve understanding of regional dynamics and identify actions which could generate meaningful improvement. Dr. Perryman will discuss the economic outlook for Laredo and the border region within the context of conditions in the US and Texas. In particular, he will focus on US-Mexico border integration and the related benefits as well as current challenges related to immigration, slowdowns in crossings and public policy.

As part of Small Business Week, the Laredo Chamber of Commerce also announced the 2019 Small Businesses of the Year Award recipients. The annual Small Business Awards highlights the vital contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners to Laredo’s economy.
